STEEL CONSTRUCTION: This home gym system is made of heavy-duty 14 gauge steel tube frame and vinyl coated for extra durability with a total weight of 150 lbs.

Great, sturdy addition to my home gym.
My Marcy Home Gym arrived today via freight service at 10:45am. It was assembled and ready to rock and roll by 2:00pm, so approximately 3 hours and 15 minutes from arrival to finish. I've read multiple reviews stating that it took people 4-6 hours and two people, which I cannot understand. I'm a 5'4" woman with a socket wrench set and the ability to follow instructions, and I had this thing put together relatively easily.
I'll start out by saying that it arrived completely undamaged, unlike other reviews, and had all of the pieces. Nothing was bent, scratched or dented.
The instruction manual is a pain in the tush, as it's not the most clear and some steps are missing. I'll give you some pointers here:
1. When you're building the chest fly bars, for example, the instructions fail to tell you to pull the proper number of parts two assemble both bars. When you get to that part, double your parts. This happens a few times in the manual, so be prepared for it.

Love this machine!! And I love the fact I no longer have to drive to the gym to work out!!!
Very very happy with the gym. At first I was afraid there weren't enough weights, but the way it seems to be set up, it feels like there is a lot more weight on there than stated. For example if I can normally do a seated chest press at the gym with about 80-90 pounds, on this gym it feels the same at about 50 pounds, but the way I look at it is that it's a good thing because I don't think I will ever come close to reaching the max weight on this thing. Some people said that you have to be short to use this gym, I can assure you that is FALSE! I am 6 feet 4 inches tall, and I can do all of the exercises with absolutely no problem.
Assembly was easy enough, like someone earlier stated, if you have a brain and choose to use it, you will be fine. I assembled this by myself with taking some breaks in between to play with the kids, and it took me a total of about 5 hours (that was me really not rushing though). It is very sturdy once assembled and no issues with any of the cables being loose or anything like that.
My back plate, the metal part that covers the actual weights was bent a little bit at the top (other reviewers had a similar issue) but it's not enough of a bother to me to get a replacement sent out since it doesn't affect the machine at all. Sports Authority is going out of business near my house, and they had this gym on "clearance" for $419.99 ha ha yeah ok, not thanks. Thanks to Amazon I paid $249 with free shipping...hard to beat that.
Overall I am very impressed with this machine, and I can definitely do a full body work out with this thing. I am so so so happy I no longer have to deal with having to drive to the gym, change, wait for machines, look for parking, and all the other headaches that come with the gym membership...now whenever I wanna work out, I go to my basement and get my workout in stress free. Get it, you won't be disappointed!! If my review was helpful or enjoyable in any way (hopefully both) I would greatly appreciate a "Like" at the bottom of the review. Thank you and have a blessed day!

Great, easy assembly, and same as MWM-990.
I love this machine. Small, compact, and could easily be a good stand alone unit and only home gym. Personally, I use it in addition to a free weight bench. My space for more equipment is limited, so when my parents bought the MWM-990 and after assembling it for them and seeing in person how little space it took, and then testing it, I knew I had to have one. I searched and this one came up but was listed for half what my parents paid for their 990, so I ordered this one. Having assembled the 990, and now the 988, and then using both, I can tell you they are the same. Any differences between them would have to be pointed out to me because I didn't notice any other than color. If anything, my 988 is smoother in operation. I know I got lucky on price, but if you are finding this one cheaper than the 990, or just like the color of this one better, get this one. It's the same machine. You aren't missing anything from the 990 by getting this one.
Assembly was easy. Took me a little under 3 hours, by myself, both timse. I don't understand any review stating it takes all day, or is difficult, etc. Instructions are blow out style pictures and easy to follow. Listed hardware on each step don't always match what they picture (listed will say 4 washers, but photo clearly shows 8, etc) but it's irrelevant. Follow the pictures. It all works out in the end.
Package arrived kind of abused, but materials are strong inside and no damage occurred. Packaged well and can withstand a "rough" delivery.
I'm 6'3" with a tall torso for my height, and have no problems using the machine. I've seen some reviews saying it's too small for 6' and above. I disagree. Just because the pull down bar comes with a long chain doesn't mean you need to use the entire length. I use half the length of the chain and can get full movement on pull downs.
Hope this helps someone out there. In my opinion, the only better machines out there are the much bigger machines (which I would of bought if I had the space). The 988/990 are the best bang for the size, being the best bang for the buck is a bonus.
